| What is MHOSA
(Mile-high
HO-scale Slot-car Association)? -- MHOSA is an organization of
friendly
folks who share enthusiasm for racing slot cars. MHOSA organizes
slot car racing events for all levels of skill and interest. For
more information about MHOSA read our charter
and chronicle.
What is the MHOSA Cub Scout Challenge? -- its a series of "casual" race events designed to introduce beginner father-son* pairs to the hobby of slot car racing. Sons should be between 8 and 10 years old. The program is specifically designed to remove any apprehension a beginner might have due to inexperience or lack of know-how. The Cub Scout Challenge consists of clinics to learn about car set-up & racing skills, and actual races. What are the merits of racing slot cars? -- there are many. Like the Pinewood Derby event, it provides an opportunity for Fathers* and their sons to learn and have fun. It provides a regular joint activity that has the challenges of building, creating & competing. Unlike TV or video games its hands-on, real-world fun with teams and competitors that develop sportsmanship and a sense of accomplishment. It's inexpensive. At $4.00 per person per race, it provides a better value than video arcades, bowling, skating, miniature golf, or the movies. Do I have to race against others? -- Sure! But you will only be racing against other beginners in a "low key" fun-oriented series where focus is on helping beginner learn and enjoy the hobby. What equipment do I need? -- Patriot II car kit - minimum one kit per father-son team is needed. How much does it cost? -- The clinics are free, the racing is free. A car kit with a new ready-to-race car and essential parts and tools are available from MHOSA for $42, or lease for $7 per father-son team per race day -- cost details and options. Patriot II cars last for years with little maintenance. Deadline for sign-up -- November 26th (Sunday). Time is needed to order and prepare kits for participants. What is the Schedule for events? -- Two clinics hosted by friendly and knowledgeable MHOSA folks will be held before year end. Participants should attend at lease one and will learn the basics of 'car set-up' and driving skills. There will be approximately 6 races between January and April -- schedule TBD. Races (including pre-race practice) will run on Saturday morning from 10:00 to noon. What if I can't make it to all the races? -- MHOSA encourages participants to come often, but understands that it is not always possible. The program is designed to be flexible so that it is not necessary make it to make every race to win the championship. The more often you attend, the more fun you will have! Need more
