What is the MHOSA DVD Challenge? -- its a series of "casual" race events designed to introduce beginners age 8 and over to the hobby of slot car racing. The program is specifically designed to remove any apprehension a beginner might have due to inexperience or lack of know-how. The DVD Challenge consists of clinics to learn about car set-up & racing skills, and actual races. What are the merits of racing slot cars? -- there are many. It provides a regular activity that has the challenges of building, creating & competing. Unlike TV or video games its hands-on, real-world fun with teams and competitors that develop sportsmanship and a sense of accomplishment. It's inexpensive. At $5.00 per person per race, it provides a better value than video arcades, bowling, skating, miniature golf, or the movies. Do I have to race against others? -- Sure! But you will only be racing against other beginners in a "low key" fun-oriented series where focus is on helping beginner learn and enjoy the hobby. What equipment do I need? -- None to try. All the equipment you need is provided on a loan basis to try. How much does
it cost?
-- The practice and clinics are free. If you decide to make
a run at the DVD player it will cost about $50 for a car kit with
a
new ready-to-race car and essential parts. Races cost $5 per
person per race but includes refreshments. Where do we Race? -- Click here to
see race venues. Deadline for sign-up -- TBA - approximately the end of August. What is the Schedule for events? -- TBA. The schedule will be posted on the front page of mhosa.com. Race reminders and standings will be communicated by email for each race. What if I can't make it to all the races? -- MHOSA encourages participants to come often, but understands that it is not always possible. The program is designed to be flexible so that it is not necessary to attend every race to win the championship (best 5 of 8 races are scored). Need more
