When: TBA circa February/March 2010.  See agenda below.

Where: Venue will be a six-lane Scorpion or four lane MaxTrax.

What
: BSRT G-jets (non-magnet cars) - Bring your own car, body, spares, tools and controllers -- see car rules.  A legacy is in the making.

Who
: Six teams of three or four drivers.  Three team slots are reserved for out-of-town teams who have previously expressed strong interest in participating.  Local teams will make up the balance depending on out-of-town commitments.   Contact Roger Thompson (303) 699-3339 to be reserve a team slot.

Racer Director: TBA.  An independent Racer Director will inspect the cars and bodies bodies, conduct the race meeting, keep the race on schedule
, interpret rules, make rulings, and MC the raffle and awards presentations.  Most importantly, the Race Director will enforce rules and make decisions about track and lap counter problems should they occur.

How:
The objective if this race is to invite teams from out-of-state.  Four Team slots are reserved; Phoenix, Wichita, Sioux Falls, and Boise.  Teams must choose a captain, team name, car number, car color, and body type, then contact a the Chairman to register the team.  Registration will be issued on a first come, first serve basis.
If a team is unable to attend, the slot will go to a wait listed out-of-state team, and then to local wait listed teams.  Duplicate body types will be allowed, but duplicate colors schemes and car numbers will not be allowed.  A registration will hold the team's place until it pays the entry fee, at which time the team becomes officially entered.   Car numbers, colors, and even drivers can be changed after registration as long as there is no conflict with another registered team.  If the entry fee is not paid by the deadline, the team could lose its place.  If a team discovers that the entry fee may be late, contact the Treasurer as soon as possible.

Registration is open.

C10 - Guide Pin - One stock in stock location
C11 -
Any bushings or spacers, with or without altercations are allowed on motor shaft or axles -- no ball bearings.

Note: Car rules will be strictly enforced.  Cars and parts to be used during the race must be submitted for inspection disassembled.  Cars and parts will be visually inspected.  Motor resistance, axle holes, magnet strength, body weight, car width, and tire size will be measured for compliance.  Cars, chassis and/or parts may be marked for later identification.

Run Time Rules

R1 - Teams will have three drivers, one of which must be captain.  Every driver must race at least two one-hour rotation.  Drivers may be substituted up until the last minute by notifying the Race Director in writing.  A fourth "alternate" driver will be allowed with written permission from the Race Director.  Alternate driver entry fees are not refundable after one week prior to the race.
R2 - One driver from each team must marshal each rotation or as designated prior to start.  Marshals may not leave their post without first finding a willing substitute.
R3 - The race will be run with 12 volts DC +/- 0.3 volts.
R4 - The enduro will be conducted in consecutive one-hour "power on" rotations.  The driver who begins a rotation must complete it.
R5 - The track will be stopped (power off) for approximately 90 seconds at the end of each rotation to record laps and perform lane changes.
R6 - European rotation will be used.

R7 - Cars may not be serviced during lane change (power off) periods.  Marshals shall change lane tape and move cars to the appropriate lane.  A marshal can not handle his own team's car during lane change periods.
R8 - All pit work (including cleaning tires and pickup shoes) must be done in designated pit area.
R9 - Pit stop proceedure will be described in the racers meeting prior to the beginning of the race.
R10 - If a car's body becomes detached or the car is unable to continue, a marshal shall immediately give the car to the driver.  Marshals may not attempt to fix the car or correct the problem.
R11 - If a piece (i.e. bumper, wing, lights, windshield, etc) becomes detached, the team must pit the car to repair/replace the body.
R12 - There will be no "track calls" (power off) during one-hour race rotation unless the Race Director (not marshal or driver) suspects a problem with the track or lap counter.  Marshals and drivers may notify the Race Director if a problem is observed.

R13 - Marshal's shall make reasonable effort to place cars in front of the counter if a car deslots in front of the counter.
R14 - "Pluses" must be visually verified by a marshal or the Race Director.  Marshals may not assess pluses based on driver hear-say.  Marshals pay attention, be responsible and fare!  Drivers, don't sweat it if a lap is missed.

 FAQ
Cars and parts
Q: Why G-jets?

A: This car is a proven car in MHOSA’s Inaugural 12 Hours of Les Monts. The consistency in quality out of the box is an objective for this race.  We want an emphasis on driving and pit strategy, not finding an equipment advantage, and we believe the G-jet meets this objective.
Q: How far/long will a G-jet go before replacement parts are needed.

A: The race will be run with 12 volts DC.  In the Inaugural 12 Hours of Les Monts, all six cars went the distance with only pickup shoe replacements.  At least one car made only one replacement of pickup shoes.  Pickup shoe  and bush wear will depend on setup tension.
Q: What kind of tires are allowed?

A:
Only stock black BSRT G-jet tires which are made of a durable silicon covered foam combination.  Other tires were considered including slip-ons.  Loosening tire restrictions will require testing to find the best size and type.  This adds additional cost, need for access to varieties of tires, and test time that are undesired factors in the outcome of the race.  This decision to use stock G-jet emphasizes the objective of driving and endurance to be the major factors in the outcome of the race (not cost , set up and testing time).  The stock G-jet tires come with the car, handle well, and last at least 12 hours of continuous running.
Q: Why is there no limit on spare parts?

A: This was the subject of much debate among the organizers.  Many ideas were surfaced and discussed.  One idea was to have one each (21t , 22t, 23t, 24t, 25t) gears so that replacing a gear meant compromising performance.  Another idea was to provide one axle and unlimited gears so changing a gear cost pit time.  Both have merits, but in the end, simplicity in governance prevailed.  We know from experience that stock G-jet gears will normally run at least 12 hours without sacraficicing performace.  Even damaged gears brake back in during an enduro.  During the Inaugral enduro, all cars finished the 12 hours on stock tires with no problems.  Many spare parts are not perceived as an advantage, especially when considering that a pit stop is necessary to use them.
Q: What if I break a chassis in the race?

A: Chassis can be replaced with any chassis which has passed technical inspection.  However, every single part "as is" must be moved from the old chassis to the new chassis before the new chassis is allowed.  Parts may be replaced AFTER this process.  There is no limit to the number of chassis that may be used.
Q: Is balancing armatures and truing of commatures allowed.

A: Yes.  The objective is cost to parity.  Fundamentally, the organizers believe that stock armatures have a wider desparity in performance than their Hot Stock counterparts.  Therefore, Hot Stock armatures are allowed.  Since is is difficult to dertermine whether an armature is factory balanced/trued or balanced/trued after market, both are allowed.

Q: Why are any gears allowed?

A: The organizers felt there were merits in limiting gears to certain ratios.  Like tires, selecting the gear ratio becomes a time and test factor.  While this is not desireable, it is difficult to enforce gear ratios expecially during the race.  With the stock tire rule test time has been reduced.  Gear material is also difficult to determine.  In an effort to simplify rule enforcement and reduce the suspicion of cheating, the organizers have decided to allow any gears.

Q: Why no gold electrical parts?

A: It is believe an end bell with gold brushes could utilize increased spring tension (speed) without giving up wear.  This defeats the purpose of an enduro and "saving the car."  Managing brush wear is a desired feature of an enduro.  Allowing other gold electrical parts adds cost, but offers no desired effects for this type of racing.

Bodies
Q: Some bodies handle better than others.  What will be done to equalize the bodies?

A: We want the choice of body to add character, fun and nostalgia.  However, some restriction are inevitable to ensure parity.  Essentially we will allow endurance style bodies from the post 1970 era.  There is a finite number of AFX bodies commercially available.  We have compiled a list of legal bodies.  If you want to run an AFX body that meets the spirit of this rule, but do not see it on the list, contact the Race Director.  LIghtening of bodies is allowed -- see detailed body rules.
Q: Why not consider Lexan bodies?

A: We did.  Lexan bodies have merits.  We believe hard bodies are more realistic and will add appeal for an endurance event.
Q: Why does the body have to be repaired if a piece breaks off during the race?

A: Again, there are arguments for both ways.  Bodies may be lightened to help equalize handling despite the body choice.  Since there is a minimum weight, a lost body part would reduce the body wieght, perhaps below the weigh in minimum.  There could be a temptation or perception that bodies could be lightened to intentionally lose a body part (such as lightening/weakening wing brackets to break off during the race).  Requiring car repair will encourage the desired body lightening methods.  Keep in mind, a broken body can be "repaired" be replacing it with a backup body.  The broken body can then be repaired in case it is needed as a replacement for the backup.

Run Time
Q: What is the run-time format?

A: There will be six teams and six lanes.  Each team will race every rotation.  We will use European rotation.  Every rotation will be 60 minutes long.  There will be a brief stop between rotations to record laps and reset the lap counter.  Marshaling will be assigned and shared equally between teams.  There will be no track calls unless there is a problem with the track, counter, or in the rare event the race director determines need.  Most laps wins.
Drivers
Q: Why three or four drivers per team?

A: A minimum of three drivers works well for the team.  A maximum of four drivers per team is best for the venue considering space available for pits, food and bodies.
Q: How long does a driver have to race… can they be relieved?

A: No.  The driver that begins a one hour rotation must finish the rotation.  It is meant to challenge a driver’s endurance.  There will be rare exceptions.  There are no restrictions as to when, how many, or which lanes a driver can drive.  However, each driver must drive at least two rotations.  Team captains will be responsible for assigning driving duty.
Q: Who can register a team?

A: There are team slots reserved for out-of-state teams.  The long term goal is to create a legacy that will attract out-of-state (or out of the country) racers.  Out of state teams have already expressed interest.  If the field can not be filled with out-of-state drivers, additional local teams will be allowed.
Q: Do I have to marshal?

A: Each team will have specific marshaling duties equal to that of all the other teams.  It is up to the team to decide how to fulfill its duties.
Q: Do I have stand while racing and marshaling?

A: Yes.  No stools or chairs will be allowed at the race table.  Contact the Race Director if you have a medical condition that makes it difficult or risky to stand.
General
Q: Why the name and what does "Les Monts" mean?

A: The name is parody from "The 24 Hours of Le Mans."  For the linguists, we realize that 'Le Mans' is an English translation of a French proper noun.  'Les Monts' is a French word that loosely means 'the mountains', so it is not a translation.  'Les Monts' is pronounced 'Lay Mont', where the 't' is very soft, almost silent.
Q: Will we race in the dark?

A: This idea has been suggested and is a possibility for future events.  The challenges are outfitting cars with lights, marshaling, and creating darkness during the day.
Q: Where can I find a complete set of rules?

A: All rules will be published at www.mhosa.com/enduro2_main.html#rules
Q: What if something happens to the lap timer/counter during the race.

A: We plan to record lap totals on a chart at the end of each one hour rotation.  Recordings will be backed up in real time to preserve lap counting data in case of system failure.  We will not record lap times.  The counter will be reset for each rotation if deemed necessary to minimize malfunction.  We hope to have a backup system in case of system failure.  The race director will make all final decisions about how to handle lap counting system issues.
Q: Will we stop to eat?

A: No.  Food and beverages will be set out throughout the event.  It will be up to each racer to find time to eat between racing and marshaling duties.
Q: What awards will there be?

A: Every driver will receive an aluminum commemorative box plaque.  Winning team members will receive additional wood plaques.  A wood plaque will go to the best marshal and the best sportsman as voted by the participants.
